Identity is defined as the fact of being who or what a person or thing is. Why is identity important one might ask? Your identity is what makes you who you are. Your identity is a direct correlation with how you treat yourself and how other people treat you.

It’s something about knowing who you are and standing firm on the principles and beliefs that govern your life. The person who is able to discover who they are is blessed with a high level of self-confidence and self-esteem. This is important because it strengthens your character. A failure to establish identity leads to confusion and a weak sense of self.

Knowing who you are is attached to, knowing your likes and dislikes, strengths and weaknesses, your morals, your needs, and your standards. All these factors are important in helping you to live a fulfilled life. I must mention that, as you grow older and you are exposed to different people, places, and things, who you are steadily evolves. This is okay. We must know that we are in a constant state of evolution and we must consistently engage in self-reflection to uncover our truest self.

Our upbringing, events in our childhood, and past experiences often shape how we act, think, and interact with others. Some may use these factors as roadblocks to why they cannot reach their desired destination. We can no longer let these things hinder us from being who God has created us to be. We are not our past; our past doesn’t define our future.

The moment you decide to figure out who you truly are, you will have taken the first step to reaching your full potential. For example, you will be filling your gas tank up to take the journey to be who God created you to be. I am not saying that there won’t be roadblocks and hazards along the way. I do know that the experiences whether good or bad along your journey will mold you into the person you need to be.

In a world filled with distractions I challenge you to take time to figure out who you are. Dive deep into the process of self-reflection to gain insight and see how to move forward. I believe there are two questions in life you need to know the answer to and they are who am I and where am I going?

Good luck on your journey.
